Himerareta omoide ni toraware tsudzukete Eien wo sakanoboru naze deatta no night rain... | Constantly fettered by concealed memories, I move against eternity. Why did I get to know you? night rain... |
Hitori nani mo shirazu ni matte ita yo Chigau basho ga aru nara dare ga iru no ? Jikan dake wa shizuka ni kako wo nazoru Umare kawaru rinne ga hito no sadame | I had been waiting alone in ignorance. If there was another place, who would be there? Time alone outlines the past silently, For to be reincarnated and reborn is destiny of Man. |
Hitomi kara afureteku Kanashimi wo fuite kara Anata kara moratta ai no kakera daite | After wiping away the sadness Overflowing from my eyes, I clutch the fragments of the love you gave me to my breast. |
Tomedonaku furishikiru Namidairo no ame Yasashii ne itami sae nagashite yuku Himerareta omoide ni toraware tsudzukete Eien wo sakanoboreba naze deatta no night rain... | Bearing the color of tears, The rain that pours endlessly Is kind to me, for it washes away even my pain. Constantly fettered by concealed memories, I move against eternity. Why did I get to know you? night rain... |
Yami no hazama itsuka wa wakariaeru Yume mitai na negai ga kienai mama | I want to be able to understand what lies within the darkness someday – And this dream-like wish still persists [1]. |
Hitogomi ni magirete mo Otagai wo yobu you ni Owari e no kaidan noboru sora ni mukete | Even if I get lost in the crowds, I would climb the stairs leading to the end while facing the sky, So that our voices may reach each other. |
Asu ni saku hana no koe Kikenai hi ga kite Sukuwareru kibou no naka kietai no ni Oioware tsukarehate sore demo matteru Eien wo tachikiru tame te wo sashidashite | The day when I can no longer hear the voices of The flowers that will be blooming tomorrow approaches. Even though I would prefer to disappear while still bearing hope of rescue, I'll still be waiting, despite being exhausted from evading pursuit [2]. Please give me your hand, so that I can cut myself free of eternity's clutches. |
Kokoro e to shimiwataru Namidairo no ame Yasashii ne itami sae nagashite yuku Himerareta omoide ni toraware tsudzukete Eien wo sakanoboreba naze deatta no night rain... | Bearing the color of tears, The rain has soaked through to my heart. It's kind to me, for it washes away even my pain. Constantly fettered by concealed memories, I move against eternity. Why did I get to know you? night rain... |
[1] Rephrased extensively, the stanza would probably mean "Though it is but wishful thinking, my desire to someday understand (the meaning of) that [something] which lies between successive periods of darkness." A possible interpretation would be that the persona seeks to see the sky in daylight for herself, something which she is unable to do.
[2] What this stanza likely refers to is that despite the persona's desire to simply disappear (die) in peace (while still having hope of being rescued), and despite being exhausted from evading a person who seeks to kill her, she is still waiting [for something].
[3] This song contains much imagery which is not only difficult (if not impossible) to translate, but also rather incomprehensible in the literal sense when read in the original Japanese. When appreciating the song, it might be helpful to consider it from the viewpoint of the character (Matsuri), who is practically an immortal [albeit one to whom exposure to sunlight is fatal] character haunted by sad memories of the past.
