Ame ga futtara mata aeru Ano hito yoso kara kita hito ka Kosame no toudai miteta kedo Yuugao hitotsu yubi ni tsumande Sotto negai wo kakete mimashita | And if the rain comes, we can meet again That person will come from wherever they are I see the lighthouse through the light rain, but I pluck one of the evening faces with my fingers And quietly make a wish |
Koe wo kakerare furimuita Namae wo kikareta sore dake de Sono hi wa wakarete kita keredo Yuugao hitotsu yubi ni tsumande Sotto negai wo kakete mimashita | As someone calls out, I turn I hear my name, and yet The day of our parting has passed, but I pluck one of the evening faces with my fingers And quietly make a wish |
Kokoro wo tsutaeru sube ga nai Yuugao hitotsu yubi ni tsumande Sotto negai wo kakete mimashita | My heart cannot be conveyed I pluck one of the evening faces with my fingers And quietly make a wish |
"Yuugao" refers to the flowers a bottle gourd produces, and literally means "evening face(s)"; I opted to go with the literal translation, as "bottle gourd flower" doesn't really have the same poetic ring to it.
