[The rain is pouring.]
The pouring rain beats down on the parching ocean.
[Rain in the middle of a battle operation is so annoying.]
[Although the rain is music to my ears when I'm reading a book.]
The once loud and vivacious sounds of life thriving on this earth
[Having lost the moon, Earth slowly deteriorates.]
[The robots, made to restore and revitalize Earth,
are under the A-Troopers' control and surveillance.]
are now slowly being silenced by the crumbling ruins.
[In place of the humans frozen in hibernation on Mars,
the A-Troopers have remained on the uninhabited Earth.]

[Put an end to the artificial humans!]
[If we don't kill them, we'll get killed!]
[Kill them when we still can!]
[They'll become our enemy one day!]
[They pose an imminent threat to humanity!]
The pouring rain beats down on my brittle heart.
[No begging-for-life will work.]
[This is not even a war.]
[There are no rules or anything.]
[It's a sheer massacre.]
If my artificial body and the soul under my skin are truly different
from those of a human, then just why is my shed blood so red?

["We are not humans, or dogs, or even animals..."]
["Ridiculous! But we must not fire upon the humans."]
I seek an answer to the question thrust upon me by my cruel creators,

["I'm no different. We're all the same."]
["Dogs and humans and everything else are all the same."]
The pouring rain embraces everything equally.
No matter of what shape or form, as long as it wished for a life,
["Keiji. Wish you the best."]
["Don't do it!"]
["I leave the rest to you."]
["Let go!. Erin, don't do it!"]
I accepted all. Then why do I feel a hint of sadness in the end?
["Go now. Haven't you already decided on this thorny path?"]

I bear a sin walking on this thorny path, wishing upon the cruel sky
for a future where you'd still be alive and well.
inoru kotoba "anata no tamashii ni yasuragiare"
["anata no tamashii ni yasuragiare"]
as I say my prayer: "May there be peace in your soul."
["May there be peace in your soul."]
The lines in [brackets] are not part of the actual lyrics, but they appear in the PV as background texts and provide clues vital to the understanding of the entire song.
This song is based on a Japanese sci-fi novel "Hadae no Shita" (Under the Skin) by Kambayashi Chohei. In the story, during a prolonged war, the moon has been shattered, and its pieces have fallen onto Earth, completely destroying the environment. In order to survive, the humans send themselves onto Mars for a 250-year-long freezing hibernation, while the robots they leave behind restore and revitalize Earth. The ones in charge of the robots are the artificially created A-Troopers, who are genetically-altered humans highly capable of emotion, intelligence, and judgment.
However, some humans have chosen to stay behind on Earth, and they gradually grow fearful of the A-Troopers. Thus, a war is imminent. The male protagonist, Keiji, is one of the A-Troopers, and the entire story is written in the form of Keiji's diary. Keiji spends much time contemplating the meaning of his own existence. He, neither a human nor an animal, but merely an altered creation, seeks to understand his life and his being, as he meets all sorts of people and goes through all kinds of adventures throughout the novel.
The title of the song, "Daisoushi", is written in the same characters as an ancient Chinese philosophical piece "Dazongshi" by Zhuangzi. Dazongshi expresses the philosophy of "to live searching for the central pillar (shi) of the great (da) way (zong/dao)". This can be more liberally interpreted as "to contemplate the true meaning of a great life".
